Todavia - Shyness

Last week I attended a friend of mine’s first show at LA’s Echoplex. This was a huge milestone in her career since the Echoplex is the epitome of the LA music scene. Although we’re merely friends through mutual associations, I’m still proud of her. I bought her recent recent album shyness at the show and thought i’d include it as a review.

Todavia is an LA based  artist that consists of multi-instrumentalist Rhyan Riesgo. Her most recent album shyness showcases the artistry of the vulnerability that often comes with falling in love and just generally being human. the album is filled with shoe-gazey riffs that are reminiscent of both My Bloody Valentine and Beach House. Shyness reminds me of everything good of the 90′s and can hopefully kick off a resurgence of what the LA music scene was like.

Favorite Song: Fallen

Angel Olsen - Phases

Wow. Honestly. Angel Olsen’s Phases showcases everything she has to offer as an artist. From her vocal range, that will sometimes emulate Roy Orbison, to the level of emotion she’s been able to generate in each song.
Phases is arguably Angel Olsen’s final form. Each album has been an example of her evolution as an artist and a songwriter. Phases solidifies her sound, and her stance in the industry.
This is an album that’ll be a great addition to anyone’s collection. Go buy it. Now.

Favorite Song - All of them, but for the sake of this post i’ll pick Sweet Dreams

New Music Thursday?

So initially I had said I would do this on fridays cause new albums come out then, but I’m AWFUL at dates unless it really effects me, so I will retract that original statement and post whenever my life isn’t such a mess.

STRANGER THINGS 2 OST

Artist: Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein
Favorite Song: Walkin in Hawkins and Descent into the Rift

Dixon and Stein bring back their campaign for reviving the Analog synth. Personally, I was a huge fan of the soundtrack to the first season, but season 2 OST is a huge step in the right direction. Considering the timeline of the show it makes sense to stick to that dissonant and often mysterious sound of the synth. Every song has some sort of build to it and some of the more dramatic songs have a real punch to it. This is definitely an album you wanna play if you feel like annoying your neighbors with your sub.

Stranger Things 2 OST can remind listeners that old technology is still not only very relevant, but a crazy force that can elevate any artists style.

Reboot

So part of my assignment for my music business class is to create a blog and then generate a few unique posts throughout the semester. Since I had a tumblr in the past I thought why not revisit a site that I’m familiar with (although it’s kinda different since I last got on) and make my blog there.
As I attempted to create a new blog, Tumblr reminded my dumbass that I never actually deleted my old one and still had my email linked to this blog so I decided to just kind of reboot this one and hope I don’t get points docked for not using a fresh blog.

It’s kind of a trip to revisit this site cause I was 19 the last time I was actually actively posting or visiting Tumblr and although I’d like to think that I’ve always been the way I am, this site is pretty much the only evidence someone needs to say otherwise. Like, I looked through some pages and I was like “end of the world” sad. And like thinking about it now, it’s stupid.
Anyways, instead of getting caught up w/ my past self, i’d like to just think of what I could do on here relevant to my studies.
The only thing i could think of really is review albums. New music comes out every friday so I could probably pick like one album every few weeks and talk about how much it sucks or doesn’t suck.

DISCLAIMER TO MAZ IF/WHEN HE SEES THIS:
I would have deleted all my old posts but there was over 6000 and Tumblr doesnt have like a delete all function, and if it does i’m just ignorant.
